Prevention & Education Services

Whether in the home, at The Florida Center, or in schools, our staff provides support necessary to promote positive family relationships and improve family health.

Healthy Families Sarasota:
One of the greatest threats to Florida’s children is abuse and neglect. Annually, there are approximately 3,000 reported cases of child abuse and neglect in Sarasota County alone. An estimated 86,000 children are abused and neglected statewide each year. To help combat this problem, The Florida Center is part of the state’s Healthy Families initiative that works to prevent child abuse and neglect before it starts. Services are offered to families prior to, or at the birth of a baby and last for three to five years, depending on the needs of the family. The Florida Center serves approximately 550 families each year through the Healthy Families program.

Parent Education Classes:
Many diverse parenting education classes and support groups are offered in an effort to enhance parent-child bonding by strengthening the entire family system.

FAST(Families and Schools Together):
A school-based, collaborative, family focused program designed to enhance parent-child bonding, improve self-esteem, and improve school performance of elementary age children.
