Tips for Successful School Meetings

Different children may need a different approach when it comes to learning and it can be very stressful for both parent and child when they are having difficulty in school. In the first episode of Different Children, Different Approach, Jenn Werden, Parent Advocate with The Florida Center FASD clinic, and Amy Weinberger, Co-founder of the Lean on Me Project with NAMI, share some tips for successful school meetings.

Jenn is also a parent navigating her own child’s special education requirements. She received coaching from Amy and learned how to come to the school meeting prepared to get to yes for her son’s needs. Now Jenn has a good relationship with the school and is able to work with them to accommodate her son’s needs.

With their new vlog Jenn and Amy hope to educate and empower parents and caregivers of children with special needs to be an advocate for their child’s learning and get to yes with the school. When you know how to best approach the issue you can come to the table as a part of the team.
